A Specialist Speech and Language Therapy Assessment with Opportunities to be Observed in Class

Duration: 1 day

  • A full clinical assessment by a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to include:

    Expressive language, including use of grammar and vocabulary
    Receptive language, including understanding of grammar and vocabulary
    Pragmatics/social use of language
    Phonology/speech
    Literacy - phonological awareness
    Informal language assessment, including language sample and interview
    Observation of Communication Skills - nonverbal and verbal
  • Structured observation of communication skills in class and feedback from Specialist Teacher
  • Structured observation in dining room, playground (by School staff) and after school time - feedback from Residential Child Care Department
  • Maths assessment by the Deputy Principal of school
  • Literacy assessment by the Deputy Principal
  • Discussion with therapist based on Parental Questionnaire previously completed
  • Clinical feedback session with parents, including an explanation of formal assessments and the predicted content of the assessment report
  • Multidisciplinary meeting of staff to discuss child's performance
  • A comprehensive multidisciplinary detailed report including recommendations for speech and language therapy provision   (suitable for SEN Tribunal purposes)
